Te Hei Tiki
Hand-carved and deeply treasured, hei tiki are among the most precious Māori taonga (treasures). These heirloom pieces are carefully protected and passed down through generations, carrying the stories, memories, and spiritual presence of revered ancestors.
More than any other form of taonga, hei tiki often hold a strong emotional connection for their owners and families. The word hei refers to an ornament worn around the neck, while tiki is a term used throughout Māori and other Polynesian cultures to describe a human figure. A hei tiki is therefore a carved human-form pendant worn suspended around the neck.
Kiwa Art is proud to offer a distinguished collection of finely carved hei tiki, each reflecting the artistry and cultural significance of this enduring Māori tradition.
